Bruce Shapiro MD performs industry-changing research
Bruce Shapiro MD is famous for performing and publishing research that advances the field of reproductive medicine. He has developed techniques that make in vitro fertilization (IVF) safer and more effective.
- He was one of the first physicians to perform and report on blastocyst transfer in the United States. This procedure allows for the transfer of fewer embryos into the uterus while maintaining high pregnancy rates and reducing the risk of high order multiple pregnancy (triplets and greater).
- He was also instrumental in developing techniques for post-thaw extended culture (PTEC) following fertilized oocyte cryopreservation. This research demonstrated the importance of embryo-endometrial synchrony for implantation.
Our Las Vegas fertility specialist was among the first in the world to standardize the use of GnRH agonist triggers in high responders undergoing ovarian stimulation. This practice has virtually eliminated ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). His work has improved IVF success rates and reduced the risk of complications in patients who have had previous IVF failures and/or OHSS.
In addition to his work at The Fertility Center of Las Vegas, Bruce Shapiro MD is the director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Nevada School of Medicine, where he teaches medical students and residents.
